Where can we start with John's illustrious and extensive career in the music biz?
Well the start I guess!!
John's first forays into the world of music was in December 1965 at the tender age of 14, playing bass in a "beat" group called "The Electrons". The highlight being their support of the original "BADD LADDS".
In 1969 John started playing drums and in 1970 joined the "GLORIA MAYNE TRIO". They played the pubs and clubs and supported such famous names as the comedian "CHARLIE WILLIAMS".
In 1972 he joined a band called "THE SOUNDBREAKERS" playing rhythm and lead guitar.
From 1972-1977 he was back with GLORIA MAYNE and her daughter Alison.
During that time they did summer seasons at "EASTGATE" now "FANTASY ISLAND", SKEGNESS, at "BUTLINS" (working along side "BLACK LACE" and "INGOLDMELS".
In 1976 they did a 10 week tour of Germany and worked with "STAN RICHARDS" (SETH ARMSTRONG OF EMMERDALE) and "LYNNE PERRIE" (IVY TILSLEY OF CORONATION STREET).
Between 1978 and 1980 John was a resident drummer at a working men's club and then joined "HYBRID" later to be known as "CONTACT 4", a comedy show band.
Between 1985 and 1990 he played with the Grimsby band "BREAKAWAY".
In 1990 he turned professional and joined "SABLE & FOX" a comedy duo. They toured up and down the country and again John found himself back in Germany as well as Holland for a 16 date tour along side "CHUBBY BROWN" and "MARK WALKER" (son of ROY "CATCHPHRASE" WALKER) and one of the leading "QUEEN" tribute bands "MAGIC".
This was all around the time that the "BERLIN WALL" came down and John still has a piece of it that he skillfully extracted with a hammer and chisel!
John says this was the hifghlight of his playing career.
He also did a summer season at "ST. OYSTH, CLACKTON" where he played with the hit 60s group "PINKERTON ASSORTED COLOURS" and "BROTHER LEES" a comedy trio seen regularly on TV in the 70s and 80s.
Between 1993 and 1994, John toured with "DAVE JACKLIN" on the "BOBBY NUTT" summer spectaculars.
Since then he has played with "BLITZ", "INSTANT REPLAY", "CASCADE" (later known as "SKY HIGH") and was a founding member of "ZERO DAMAGE".
After the demise of Zero Damage at the end of 2007 John decided to join the fledgeling Glam Rock band "GLAM" and has been the driving rhythm section ever since.
John thinks he hasn't changed since joining GLAM but we know better!
In pink wig and silver and gold satin we know that John has finally found his calling!!
